I love to read. So. Much. Two years ago, the Hubs bought me a Kindle for Christmas. I was thrilled! I thought I would miss the feel of a book in my hands but getting to take
a few a lot of books (yippee!) with me in one package outweighed the nostalgia of a hard-cover book.
Now, we’ve reached the sad part of our story. One day, I opened my Kindle case and the screen was frozen. The Jane Austen screensaver was pixelated all to heck. Completely and totally beyond saving. It was a dark day. I wanted another Kindle but I’m kind of a tightwad and refused to shell out the dough.
Finally, this past December I bought a new Kindle Fire. I was so excited! I could get eBooks again. But my tightwaddery kicked in. I really don’t like to spend a lot of money on books and sometimes waiting on my turn to check out eBooks from the library takes longer than I like. Then I found a wonderful thing!
Kindle Buffet* This is a fantastic free app that does the work for you! Each day, a search is done and a list is published of all the books currently available as a free download. It offers hundreds of books in numerous genres. Your job? Download until your downloading finger gives out. Because one thing I have a hard time turning down besides a third cup of coffee is free books!
The cool thing? I have read books that I probably would have never found on my own out in the great Amazon wilderness. Some of the books are first novels by authors who have self published and some are top sellers. Here are a few of the really good ones I’ve read lately:
- The Girl Who Swam to Atlantis
- That Bear Ate My Pants! Adventures of a Real Idiot Abroad
- Speak Swahili, Dammit!
If you like free books (or just books in general) as much as me, definitely check it out! It’s worth every penny! 🙂
So, Question: What are you reading these days?
